BSc Assignment: 3D Estimation of a Salient Object
The Control Engineering group has purchased a robot called NAO. NAO is a 58 cm high humanoid that is developed by the French company Aldebaran Robotics (http://www.aldebaran-robotics.com/). It has 25 degrees of freedom, 41 sensors and is programmable in C, C++ and Python. The purpose for which NAO is purchased is to test algorithms developed in the Control Engineering group. This assignment has two goals. The first is to write a short, clear manual so the researchers on the Control Engineering group can learn how to use the NAO in a short amount of time (within the hour). An important part of this goal is to install and explore the support software that is used to control NAO. The second goal is to make a demo with NAO. The demo can show what the capabilities of NAO are with the use of all its sensors and actuators. It is also possible to program an algorithm on NAO to show that it can be used for which it was purchased. A demo may also show that an algorithm can be installed on NAO. It would of course be nice if that algorithm was developed at the Control Engineering group.
