SUMMARY:CTIT Symposium - ICT: The Innovation Highway
DESCRIPTION:ICT is rapidly changing our world in finding new solutions to economical and societal problems. At CTIT we are working among others on solutions for energy efficiency and traffic jams and in the meantime connecting people from all over the world. ICT innovation itself\, however\, is no perpetuum mobile. Too often\, there is news on malfunctions of railways\, telecom\, or financial systems. Minor defects lead to macro scale problems with huge social and monetary consequences. In most\, the ICT system has become too complex. For tomorrow&rsquo\;s society to function at a higher level\, we need to invest in ongoing ICT research today.\NCTIT has acknowledged this need and is working hard on spreading the message. In the coming years\, ICT will play a key role in innovation plans. A Dutch&nbsp\; ICT Roadmap has been developed. The Netherlands will focus its fundamental and strategic research on industrial challenges\, the so called top sectors. All of these sectors realized that ICT was crucial for achieving their ambitions.&nbsp\; Not only on a national level\, but also on a European scale\, challenges have been formulated. In EU&rsquo\;s Horizon 2020 three objectives have been set: excellent research\, competitive industries\, and better society. Here as well\, ICT plays a central role in reaching these goals. \NAt this year&rsquo\;s CTIT symposium we will take up the challenges defined at the national and European level. Challenges which\, when solved\, will lead us to a better future. Together with you we will show that ICT is the true innovation highway.\N&nbsp\;\NThe list of invited speakers includes Ir. Gerben Edelijn (CEO Thales Netherlands BV)\, Prof.dr. Dirk Heylen (HMI-UT)\, Prof.dr.ir. Boudewijn Haverkort (ESI and DACS-UT)\, Prof.dr.ir. Stefano Stramigioli (RAM-UT)\, Prof.dr.ir. Gerard Smit (CAES-UT) and Prof.dr.ir. Peter-Paul Verbeek (Philosophy-UT)\, see the enclosed program.\N&nbsp\;\NAs it has become a tradition\, at the CTIT symposium the floor will also be given to PhD students from CTIT for short presentations and posters.\N&nbsp\;\NWe invite you to this inspiring symposium and welcome your contribution.
